Professor Brid Featherstone will present new research on the links between deprivation and increased state-based intervention in child welfare at the University of Newcastle on Wednesday, August 1.
Professor Featherstone said children in the most deprived 10 per cent of small neighbourhoods in England were more than 10 times more likely to be looked after or on a child protection plan than children in the least deprived 10 per cent.
The research will be introduced by University of Newcastle Family Action Centre’s Professor Alan Hayes, who will speak about the social and economic context of child protection in Australia, and how Professor Featherstone’s findings can be applied in our context.
