Two weeks ago the 24-year-old officially joined the Melbourne-based band, after he was chosen from 100 applicants through a series of audition videos.
Members of Massive are scattered between Germany, England and Melbourne, so Greentree won’t actually play in the same room as his new bandmates until European tour rehearsals begin in London, 10 days out from their opening show in Barcelona on September 20.
“Hopefully it works,” Greentree said.
Greentree was previously in hard-rock Newcastle band BlackDiamond and he plays drums in rugby league comedy act Nah Mate.
“I’ve toured the east coast of Australia from Adelaide to the Sunshine Coast and everywhere in between with my last band and there was always the idea of going over to Europe, but it never got that far,” he said.
TEEN CELLO STAR
MARK down the name Tobias Reimann. The chances are you’ll be hearing plenty from the 13-year-old Novocastrian in the future.
The cellist’s talents will on display on Friday at the Adamstown Uniting Church when he performs as part of Twilight Musical Dialogues’ Smoke, Glass and Mirrors – Musical Subterfuge, the opening concert of the third Newcastle Music Festival program.
Reimann, a year 7 Newcastle Grammar student, will perform Sebastian Bach’s challenging Suite in G BWV 1007, Menuet 1, Menuet 2 and Gigue unaccompanied.
“What is unusual is his level for his age,” Twilight Musical Dialogues curator and performer Sally Walker said. “He hasn’t been learning the cello for long and he’s already completed grade seven for a high distinction, which is very rare.”
Walker’s performance will include a host of classical pieces that include hidden messages about love interests and politics, including Robert Schumann’s Kinderszenen – Of Foreign Lands and People and Philip Glass’ Piano Etude No. 1.
URBAN COWBOY
GRAMMY-winner Keith Urban will kick off his Australian tour at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre on January 23.
The Graffiti U World Tour is Urban’s first in more than two years. The two-hour-plus show features new songs from Graffiti U plus his biggest hits like Blue Ain’t Your Colour.
Urban will be supported on his Australian tour by Grammy-nominated artist Julia Michaels.
HARVEY WATCH
EIGHT-time Golden Guitar-winning artist Adam Harvey will be in Newcastle on Thursday for a promotional visit for his latest album The Nashville Tapes.
Keep an eye out for Harvey on an upcoming episode of the Herald Sessions video series before he returns on November 17 to perform at Lizotte’s.
NO BREAK FOR NOLL
SHANNON Noll’s foul-mouthed tirade at Nyngan might have gone viral and given the controversial entertainer a swathe of bad publicity. It might have even caused the Mount Isa Rodeo to cancel the ex-Australian Idol star’s appearance.
However, it hasn’t stopped Nollsy from announcing a national tour for his latest album Unbroken. Hunter fans can see the What About Me singer at the Shoal Bay Country Club on November 10 and at Wests New Lambton on November 23.
