
TWO teenagers travelling in a stolen car have been charged after crashing into two separate police vehicles during a pursuit in Newcastle.
Police patrolling on Wakefield Road, Killingworth about 9.45pm on Friday tried to stop a Nissan X-trail, believed to be stolen.
The Nissan slowed before turning and hitting the police vehicle and driving away, police said.
Police began a pursuit but it had to be stopped due to safety concerns.
At the intersection of Link Road and Transfield Avenue, Cameron Park, the Nissan then hit a NSW Police Force Dog Unit vehicle and crashed, police said.
The three occupants – two men, aged 18, and a 19-year-old woman – fled on foot, police said.
They were arrested and taken to Toronto police station.
One of the men was charged with a string of offences, including police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, two counts of use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, take and drive conveyance without consent of owner and drive recklessly.
He faced Newcastle Local Court on Saturday where he was refused bail. He will face Toronto Local Court on Monday.
The second man was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
He was granted conditional bail to face Toronto Local Court on Tuesday, September 25.
The 19-year-old woman was released pending further inquiries.
