Divinyls Australian tour cancelled due to “unforeseen circumstances”

The band released a statement Wednesday afternoon saying the cancellation was due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

The band was expected to re-form this summer five years after the death of iconic frontwoman Chrissy Amphlett for the national tour.

Divinyls guitarist, founding member and songwriter, Mark McEntree, had planned to relaunch the new line-up on February 27 at Geraldton with Baltimore-bred, LA-based singer-songwriter, Lauren Ruth Ward, covering for Amphlett on lead vocals.

Original Blondie guitarist and one-time Divinyls member Frank Infante, and ex-Sleepy Jackson drummer Malcolm Clarke and bassist J Cortez complete the new line-up.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances the forthcoming Divinyls Australian tour has been cancelled,” the band’s statement said.

“All tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. We apologise to existing ticket-buyers for any inconvenience.”

“We are saddened to hear about the cancellation of the forthcoming Divinyls Australian Tour including their performance at Live at the Foreshore,” Festival organisers said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. The Live at the Foreshore crew are looking forward to another amazing event in just over a month with some incredible live acts. 

“The team are working on a replacement and another act will be announced in a couple of days. Stay tuned.”

Divinyls were one of the most successful Australian bands of the ’80s and early ’90s, recording classics like Boys In Town, Science Fiction, Pleasure and Pain, Back To The Wall and the US No.2 smash I Touch Myself.

Amphlett, who was famous in her early years for dressing as a provocative school girl, is arguably Australia’s greatest ever female rock star. Amphlett died in 2013 aged 53 from breast cancer, four years after the Divinyls last performance.
