According to Geoscience Australia the 2.1 magnitude earthquake hit just after 6.30am.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.1 sits almost in the microearthquake category and is not usually felt, except by very few people under favourable conditions.
It is not the only time earthquakes have registered in the Upper Hunter.
In September 2018, the Muswellbrook Shire experienced a string of earthquakes over three days.
Five were registered in total.
One of the quakes, which were of a magnitude of 3.4, was the strongest EPSO (Edward Pigot Seismic Observatory) ground motion logged since April, 2014.
