The 25 year old was arrested at Hudson Street Hamilton about 7am Monday by patrolling officers attached to the Police Transport Command. He was sighted riding a red mountain bike and when police tried to approach him, he allegedly rode off.
Police were able to stop the man on Donald Street where he provided a false name. Checks on the mountain bike revealed it had been stolen from outside a Lambton pharmacy in June. A search was conducted and police seized a small amount of ice and a restricted substance.
The 25 year old, who is currently on parole until November 2019, was arrested and taken to Newcastle police station. He was later charged with eight offences including two counts of break and enter, in dwelling - steal and break out, larceny, possess housebreaking implements, goods in custody reasonably suspected stolen and two drug offences. He appeared at Newcastle Local Court where he was refused bail to reappear on July 17.
The mountain bike has since been returned to the owner.
