Eighteen applicants will be commence the program on August 5 where they will undertake three weeks of a Certificate II in Hospitality at TAFE NSW and Wests New Lambton, followed by two weeks of work placement at Wests.
For successful candidate Zayde Davis, the program is a "big deal".
"This will change my life," he said.
"This is the first time I have been selected for something like this. I will take it one step at a time and see where things lead. I will try my best and hopefully I do well."
TAFE NSW Aboriginal Engagement Coordinator Daniel Jack hoped the pre-employment program would address some of the disadvantage faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
"Our Hunter-focused pre-employment program ... will provide those within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community with a genuine opportunity to secure a job with Wests," he said.
"TAFE NSW has hand picked course units that will help successful applicants hit the ground running".
This opportunity may lead to employment opportunities with Wests for well performing participants.
