Brailey, 23, debuted for the Sharks in 2017 and has appeared in 62 top-grade games.
His signing casts further doubt on the future of Newcastle's New Zealand international hookers Danny Levi and Slade Griffin.
Sport: Newcastle Knights
Levi, who was dropped from first grade after last week's loss to Wests Tigers, has a year to run on his contract with Newcastle but is exploring alternative options.
Griffin has not played for more than a year, after undergoing a fourth knee reconstruction, but is preparing for a comeback.
He will be hoping to show enough in the last few weeks of the season to earn a new deal.
Brailey is expected to share the dummy-half duties with versatile Connor Watson next season.
