City of Newcastle has appointed Purser Corporate Communication to help establish and administer new business improvement associations in the city.
The Newcastle firm's appointment will set in train the process of forming new BIAs in Wallsend, Mayfield, Hamilton and the CBD to conduct promotional and beautifying projects.
Newcastle Now and Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, BIAs under the city's former business levy model, have been banned from applying for grants after committing what the council deemed were breaches of previous funding agreements.
The Newcastle Herald reported last week that some Hamilton traders had rejected the new levy funding scheme as too complicated.
Purser will support the new BIAs, but its contract does not extend to helping individuals and other groups which apply for levy funds.
