SCONE trainer John Ramsey reckons he's "never been so happy to run second" after Never Listen stormed home to finish behind favourite Miami Bound in Thursday's $1 million VRC Oaks (2500 metre) at Flemington.
The three-year-old filly, racing her first group 1, was well back following a poor start before Newcastle jockey Darryl McLellan made a move around the outside of the field at the final turn.
Never Listen, which will now go for a spell, made up plenty of ground down the straight and finished 3.25 lengths from the winner.
"It was a big run," Ramsey said. "We hadn't planned to be that far back, but we were slow away. Digger [McLellan] used his brain and gave her every chance. I've never been so happy to run second."
Amazing Peace ran 11th for Newcastle trainer Paul Perry.
