Water is one of the most precious resources on the planet.
What are we doing to ensure supply?
We are trying.
In some parts of the globe there are desalination plants.
The water is alleviating supply issues.
Yet, I'm not sure we have considered the first and second order consequences of desalination.
I swam recently close to a desalination plant and I was acutely aware of the increased salt in the water.
How does that effect surrounding sea-life and the entire marine eco-system?
In third world countries, clean water is a dream.
People bathe, wash food in and drink contaminated water.
This leads to sickness and sometimes death. Particularly among children.
When children are sick, education is impossible. And we know that education is critical to increasing life
Through education we can change so much; climate issues, sanitation, shelter, wellness, prosperity, energy supply and more.
There are organisations such as X-Prize, which recently awarded a $10 million prize to a group who created an app that teaches basic literacy and numeracy to children in third world countries without adult intervention.
Tablets were donated by Bill and Melinda Gates, and one elder in the village was taught how to recharge the tablets using solar power.
This offers a new perspective on "Give a man a fish, he will eat today, but teach a man to fish and he will eat forever".
Education is problematic on so many levels.
There are people globally working to redefine education and its delivery.
Let's resource them for success.
