The unique waterfront residence at 148 Ross Street in Belmont was marketed by LJ Hooker Belmont's Joshua O'Doherty and sold for an undisclosed sum. But the Newcastle Herald understands the trophy home was secured by a local buyer for a price well above $4 million.
The Far North Queensland-inspired residence was built in 1996 and set on almost 2000 square metres of prime waterfront land. It has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a separate guest house, in-ground pool, private jetty and slipway.
The previous highest sale on Lake Macquarie, according to Australian Property Monitors data, was $3.75 million for a luxury a tri-level waterfront property at 27 Excelsior Parade in Carey Bay.

The Ross Street result was not the only big sale to kick off 2020. Bar Beach landmark Stella Maris, at 68 Memorial Drive and with one of the most well-known facades in the city, also sold this month.
The sale price was also undisclosed but the property, which was marketed by PRD Newcastle and Lake Macquarie's Mark Kentwell and Natalie Tonks, is believed to have had a guide of $5 million to $5.5 million. It was set for auction this month.
Port Stephens broke the $4 million mark for the first time this month with a big off-market sale in Salamander Bay.
Strong interest
The level of early enquiry for a waterfront property on the other side of the lake that has undergone a stunning transformation at 76 Bulgonia Road in Brightwaters has "exceeded expectations", according to Belle Property's Sam Taylor.
He is marketing the extensively renovated residence that has been the home of Karina and Daniel Wood since 2009. They bought a much smaller, circa 1960s home that was blue on the outside and covered with slate on the inside. It now has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, luxury finishes and spectacular water views. It is openon Saturday at 2.15pm. A price guide has not been disclosed.
New look
It is a case of new year, new look for one New Lambton agency. In October last year, Domain reported that owners Maria and Robert Crawford were passing on the running and ownership of Robert Crawford Real Estate to long-term employee and business partner Amanda Swan and her husband Phil.
The Swans told Domain they were looking forward to the venture when they unveiled their new branding as Crawford Real Estate this week.
Robert and Maria will continue as sales agents in the business while supporting Amanda and Phil in the day-to-day running of the office.

A four-bedroom residence custom designed by Chris Toner at 219 Beaumont Street in Hamilton South has been listed for sale through First National Newcastle City with an auction guide of $1.4 million to $1.5 million.
Belle Property are marketing a four-bedroom home opposite the beachfront at 35 Ungala Road in Blacksmiths with a guide of $1.5 million to $1.73 million.
$500,000 to $1m
Century 21 Novocastrian are selling a four-bedroom house in Fletcher's Hidden Waters Estate at 22 Crestview Street for $620,000 to $660,000.
Under $500,000
McGrath New Lambton are selling a three-bedroom home at 46 Bridges Road in New Lambton for $430,000 to $470,000 and LaneCampos have a three-bedroom house at 21 Summit Street in North Lambton for $450,000 to $495,000.
