Just after 12pm emergency services were called to a truck stopped adjacent to Grahamstown Dam on the Pacific Highway, Kings Hill.
Crews from Raymond Terrace Fire Station arrived on scene to find the vehicle was leaking diesel fuel. The driver had attempted to stem the flow, but was unsuccessful.
One of two northbound lanes of the highway was closed just past Rangers Road while firefighters worked to clean up the spill. Fuel covered more than 300 metres of roadway but did not leak into any drains or waterways.
All lanes have since reopened but drivers are asked to exercise caution when travelling through the area.
