ASW director Colin Lawson says, "For these works, I'll look at hanging a mixture of scale, grouping painting styles and making sure colour combinations talk to each other ... it's about creating a narrative for the viewer when they walk into the gallery."
Barnes' palette is considered, each colour is chosen for its ability to affect, enhance or mutate the colour it's placed next too.
Barnes said during research, he found "Ernst Mach an Austrian physicist who discovered if you put the right tonal graduations down, the eye jumps and fills in the gradients and I thought, oh that's what's happening and I started to use it more consciously."
Through this theoretical understanding and Barnes' intuitive use of design, this exhibition will leave visitors with a lasting impression. Ends March 14 at 40 Annie Street, Wickham, Friday to Sunday 11-4.
