Repacholi, 39, has now departed Tokyo after finishing 30th in the men's 10m air pistol and equal sixth in the newly introduced mixed 10m air pistol alongside Australian teammate Dina Aspandiyarova.
His future in the sport has been a point of interest, but the three-time Commonwealth champion feels the 2032 Olympics may be a bridge too far and Paris is a more realistic goal in just over 1000 days.
IN THE NEWS:
"I've been asked so many time if I'm going to still be competing when the Olympics are in Brisbane in 2032. My honest answer is I don't think so," Repacholi posted on social media.
"But I can guarantee you all that this campaign has been very enjoyable and I have enjoyed training for Tokyo.
"I have spoken with [wife] Alex and we have both agreed to start planning and training for Paris 2024. With 1090 days till I can really show the world who Dan Repacholi is.
"Now time to finish off my quarantine and spend some quality time with my family and work."
Repacholi, who made his Olympic debut in Athens in 2004, reflected on his results and performance in Tokyo last week.
"In my first match the process and match strategy was great for the whole match," he said.
"I was just very unlucky with many 9.9's, unfortunately that was the story from my first event. I was happy with the shoot just disappointed in the score.
"The biggest thing that I took from this event was the fact that I know I can compete with these professional shooters.
"I took this outlook into the teams event with Dina. In this event we showed the world that Australia is not just there to make up the numbers and made it through to the semi-finals in sixth spot.
"Unfortunately we came out equal sixth and missed out on the bronze medal match by four points. We did our best that we could on the day and that's all anyone can ask for."
