Club president Ray Watkins said Walker was "an established Magpie man".
"He's coached for a few years in our NPL youth program and is keen to develop his coaching further," Watkins told the Newcastle Herald.
"We have been thrilled with the attitude and support our women's players are continuing into this year. Having them as part of the club has helped us develop in an inclusion manner."
Maitland entered NNSW Football's top-flight women's competition this year, replacing perennial strugglers Thornton.
Under inaugural coach Keelan Hamilton, the Magpies punched above expectations to be in a battle for a top-four finish with five competition rounds to be played when the season was cut short due to COVID.
The Magpies collected a piece of silverware for the club when they lifted the NNSW Women's State Cup at Speers Point in July.
Hamilton has taken the helm at Lake Macquarie for the 2022 NNSW NPL season.
The coaching change is the third for the competition in the off-season.
New Lambton are also set to announce a new coach after Maddy Searl stood aside due to changed work commitments.
