Billed as the Riverdance Farewell Tour, it is the last chance for Australian fans to see the show, which follows the evolution of Irish dancing and includes a fusion of international influences.
Riverdance first performed at the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin in April 1994 as a seven-minute interval act. Its success since has become part of theatre history.
The show broke box office records with its world premiere in Dublin in early 1995. When it transferred to London in June 1995 the original 10 performances had to be increased to 151 shows.
There are now three companies touring the world, each with 45 cast and crew.
Riverdance performs in Newcastle daily to Sunday.
