The pair, who were in Newcastle for a SIDS and Kids charity luncheon at the Sunnyside Tavern, are collaborating on a boxing career for Steffensen, who is serving a suspension from Athletics Australia.
"I've been training John," Fenech said.
"He'll be at the fight tomorrow night, he might be challenging Butterbean.
"If he does, Butterbean's not going to catch him."
Steffensen, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, is roughly the same height as Butterbean but gives up about 120 kilograms in weight.
"I weigh the same as Butterbean's left leg, so I'll take on his left leg - that's about it," Steffensen laughed.
"We'll see what happens in the future, there's a lot of good things happening and I'm just taking it one day at a time and trying to stay healthy.
"I love my sport," he added.
"I'm obviously serving a suspension at the moment and that has given me opportunities to spend time and learn the art of boxing through Mr Fenech."
Fenech described his time on Celebrity Apprentice as an "amazing experience".
"To raise money for everybody's charity was something that was like a dream come true.
"When you help one person in life it's great, when you help thousands as we did it's pretty sensational."
