National Reconciliation Week, May 27 to June 3, commemorates milestones on the road to reconciliation. It aims to inform Australians about shared cultures, histories and achievements.
As part of the celebrations, an Ecumenical Service with a blessing by Bishop of Newcastle Gregory Thompson will take place at the Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, June 1.
After the service, there will be a a screening of John Pilger's feature documentary Utopia.
The documentary was nominated as one of the top five films of 2013 by The London Film Review. It focuses on the experiences and oppression of Aboriginal Australians living in remote Western Australia.
Indigenous leader Graeme Mundine will lead a discussion after the film.
