The veteran singer casually strolled into the cafe, unannounced, and ordered a coffee, prompting many of the 60-plus audience to ask, "Is that who I think it is?"
Young then teamed up with muso Warren Morgan, on keyboards, to perform an extended version of one of JPY's most enduring hits, Love is in the Air.
The fund-raiser was organised by Michael Hart of Century 21 Gallery Rathmines.
It was part of the national Century 21 support for the Cancer Council in October. The morning tea raised more than $1100.
Earlier in the week, a movie night at Lake Cinema, Boolaroo, attracted 120 guests and raised more than $1000.
"Combined with merchandise sales at the office, the total has now passed $2500 with one week to go," Mr Hart said.
Donations and merchandise sales can be made at the Century 21 Gallery Rathmines office.
"Every dollar our offices raise in the Hunter is guaranteed to stay here in the Hunter with funds going to Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) research projects," Mr Hart said.
