But it turns out that the vehicle was not occupied at the time of the incident.
The vehicle had been parked near the post office on The Boulevarde before rolling about 200 metres down the street.
No one was injured when it crashed at 6.45am.
The owner had parked the Toyota with its rear to the curb, and crossed the road to grab a newspaper.
Someone told him his car was rolling away so he ran after it, but the doors were locked. It's believed the vehicle's handbrake failed.
Toronto Specsavers owner Lee Boardman said the store was boarded up thanks to the hard work of the building's owners.
The store was trading as normal the next day.
"The shopfront will be replaced this weekend or next weekend," Mr Boardman said.
On the positive side, he said, the pictures made for a great advertisement.
