The award is presented to the club’s best under18s player every year, and Starling joined an honour roll that includes Johns (1992), Brett Kimmorley (1993), Kade Snowden (2003), Jarrod Mullen (2004), Jake Mamo (2012) and Sione Mata’utia (2013).
Starling also collected the SG Ball (under18s) player of the year and players’ player trophies, having won the same awards in Newcastle’s premiership-winning Harold Matthews (under16s) team last year.
Mathew Smith won the inaugural Danny Buderus encouragement award on Wednesday, and also won the Harold Matthews speed and agility award.
Tex Hoy and NSW under16s representative Matthew Croker were joint winners of the Harold Matthews player of the year award, and Croker was named players’ player.
Coaches’ awards went to Brock Gardner (Matthews) and Jayden Butterfield (Ball).
