A group of 14 of those fanatics from the Hunter showed that the movie’s enduring theme of goodness had rubbed off on them.
Many had watched the premiere screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at midnight on Wednesday.
But they were up on Thursday morning to dress up as Star Wars characters to attend the Starlight Foundation’s Christmas Party at John Hunter Children's Hospital.
There were stormtroopers, a 7-foot tall Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a clonetrooper, jawas and a TIE pilot (for those who don’t know, that’s an elite military class of the Galactic Empire).
We mustn’t forget that a blow-up R2-D2 was wheeled around the hospital in a wheelchair.
Glen Fredericks, of East Maitland, said it was “an emotional and special time”.
“Some of these kids are terminally ill,” said Glen, who dressed as a jawa.
Those involved weren’t afraid to admit to crying behind their helmets and masks.
Glen only managed a few hours sleep the night before, having watched the premiere.
We asked him for his opinion of the movie in one line.
“It had the emotion of the originals,” he said.
That’s it, we better go see it.
A Dressing Down
Kahibah’s Daphne Hughes says her partner Bruce often provides her with a good yarn.
“The other day we were getting ready to attend a function,” Daphne said.
“I got dressed and came out to show Bruce.”
Like any good man would, Bruce gave his nod of approval.
As the pair were about to leave, Daphne took a quick look in the mirror.
“My top looked lovely,” she said.
The problem was she was wearing only a petticoat.
She’d forgotten to put her skirt on.
“I still love him,” Daphne said.
A Good Egg
We’ve heard of the goose that laid the golden egg.
We’d also heard about eggs having the odd double yolk.
But we’d never heard of a carton of a dozen eggs all containing double yolks.
This is what happened when Neil Chalker, of Maryland, bought a carton of large eggs from Coles.
His wife cooked the last egg from the carton on Wednesday while cooking pancakes.
“Occasionally you might get a double-yolker, but to get 12 out of 12...” Neil told Topics.
We are reliably informed that double yolks mean good fortune.
You better go buy a few lottery tickets, Neil.
Fleet of Foot
Ever heard of foot-golf? Neither have we.
Beresfield Golf Club, though, apparently has. The club will kick-off a round of foot-golf on Sunday.
The club promoted the sport on Facebook, attracting more than 30,000 likes. It plans an official launch in about a month.
“It’s a new sport that hasn’t been in Australia long,” club pro Greg Snelling said.
It involves kicking a soccer ball into an oversized cup.
Greg told Topics it had become a worldwide sport.
“The world titles are about to start in Argentina, with a team representing Australia for the first time,” Greg said.
