FASHION designers are transforming items many of us would consider to be junk into luxury fashion items with a social and environmental conscience.
Raid My Wardrobe founder Rachel Prest will be bringing the best local eco-designers together for a pop-up event in April.
“Their creativity and capacity to think outside the box is just so amazingly incredible,” Ms Prest said.
“They are such inspiring individuals but not everyone knows we have this locally and I wanted to bring the best of them together in one space for one night to showcase their creations to Newcastle.”
Ms Prest said it was her “mission to seek out local designers and brands that were using sustainable and ethical principles in the production of their fashion lines.”
Inspired by the online organisation Fashion Revolution, which formed when the Rana Plaza complex collapsed in Bangladesh killing 1134 people in 2013, the event is part of a global movement to raise awareness about the true cost of fashion.
Old jeans that have been transformed into gorgeous skirts and tops, ripped silk saris turned into stunning scarves, discarded watch parts made into quirky jewellery and worn out skateboards shaped into uber cool sunglasses are just some of the items which will be on sale at the event.
The Eco Chic Fashion Pop-Up will be held on April 10 between 5 and 8pm at Foghorn Brewhouse, 218 King Street, Newcastle.
