The club now offers six unique dining options, each with a different price point and cuisine.
There’s Sails Eatery overlooking the lake and providing bistro meals; Salt Steak & Seafood, which offers a premium a la carte dining experience; Mario’s Pizza + Meatballs, offering New York-style pizza whole or by the slice; and Flavours Coffee Shop, serving sweet treats as well as toasted sandwiches and foccacias.
That makes four.
The Boat Shed Bar + Galley opened in 2015 and was built from the club’s existing boat shed, built in 1975. It is essentially a pub within a club and inside, you will find sailing memorabilia – including a boat that has been made into a table.
The Boat Shed Bar serves a formidable range of craft beers on tap and offers a bar snack menu with sliders, hand-cut chips and a mezza plate among the options.
That makes five.
And then there’s the newest kid on the block: The Terrace.
Sliding doors lead you from The Boat Shed Bar + Galley to The Terrace, an intimate restaurant space offering a Mediterranean-inspired menu, premium a la carte service and lake views.
Here, diners have the option of two or three courses from a menu created by head chef David Page, and an extensive wine, spirits and cocktail list in addition to the 16 craft beers on tap at The Boat Shed Bar.
Food & Wine attended the launch on May 18. The Terrace’s decor is fresh and coastal, and the service attentive and friendly. The club feels a million miles away.
“The menu’s strong Mediterranean theme has been designed to celebrate flavour with a healthy edge; and while featuring something for everyone it will constantly evolve with new dishes being introduced monthly,” Page said.
“Signature dishes include a blue swimmer crab paella and churros dusted in cinnamon sugar served with bittersweet chocolate dipping sauce.”
Belmont 16s chief executive Scott Williams said The Terrace provided a more refined dining option on the lake.
“The Boat Shed Bar + Galley was an entirely new concept for the club and the area. Over time what we have discovered, from engaging our members and guests, is that there was a gap in the market for a more defined menu and personalised service.”
The Terrace menu is available for dinner Wednesday to Saturday from 6pm. Two courses cost $48 per person, and three courses $58. There is a 10 per cent discount for club members.
