A big screen in the plaza beside the Civic Theatre will beam the Socceroos' matches live throughout the tournament.
Northern NSW Football and the Newcastle Jets are supporting the venture.
The first match televised will be Australia's Group D opener against European powerhouse Germany at 4.30am on June 13.
Australia's match against Ghana will be shown at midnight on June 19 and that against Serbia at 4.30am on June 24.
Wheeler Place became a sea of green and gold four years ago when Australia reached the second round of the World Cup in Germany, culminating in about 2000 fans flocking to the big screen to watch the Socceroos' painful exit at the hands of Italy.
