Seventy-six-year-old former Maitland-Newcastle diocese Vicar General Barry Tunks appeared in Forster Local Court on Wednesday, April 4 for historic child sex offences.
Fr Tunks was arrested and charged in late March with child sex offences of a boy aged nine to 12-years in the late 70s.
Appearing briefly before Magistrate Hudson, Fr Tunks did not make a plea and his case was adjourned to June 20 in Taree Local Court.
Fr Tunks was given varied bail.
Magistrate Hudson excused Fr Tunks from attending court on June 20 if he had representation.
After leaving court the priest did not make a statement, and his solicitor Mr Foate repeatedly said: “No comment”.
