Jodi McKay has conceded the seat of Newcastle, making way for Liberal Tim Owen to become the next state member.

In a statement release this afternoon, Ms McKay said it has become obvious that she could not retain the seat, which she won in the 2007 election.
‘‘Democracy is a wonderful and precious thing, and the people have had their say,’’ she said.
‘‘And, I accept the decision of the Newcastle community that they do not want me to continue in this role."
She said she would look back on the past four years with a sense of achievement, but she feels she has ‘‘taken some of the blows associated with moving this city forward’’.
‘‘We are a city that is quick to judge, quick to oppose, quick to take down those who would try to do things differently,’’ she said.
‘‘But if I had my time again, I would not have done it any other way.’’
