Homicide Squad detectives today arrested and charged a 45-year-old Ballina woman with murder following investigations in to the alleged bashing death the Port Stephens grandmother in 2002. Just before 8am today, Homicide Squad detectives, with assistance from Raymond Terrace police, attended a home in Ballina to arrest the woman.
She was taken to Ballina Police Station where she was charged with murder to appear in Lismore Local Court today.
Today’s second arrest in the case follows investigations by police into the death of 50-year-old Ms Gall, who was found deceased by her partner inside her home at Raymond Terrace on 25 March, 2002.
An autopsy revealed she had sustained extensive head injuries.
On March 3, 27-year-old Anne Maree Wotherspoon, of Glebe Road, Hamilton South, was arrested by police outside a business in Watt Street, Newcastle, and subsequently charged with murder.
Strike Force Varberg was formed to investigate Ms Gall’s alleged murder and comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s homicide squad and Port Stephens Local Area Command.
Police in 2006 posted a $100,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the person or persons responsible for the murder of Ms Gall.
Investigations are continuing and police continue to appeal to anyone who may have information about the incident to contact detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
