The W-League will stay at nine teams in 2017-18 after the FFA knocked back the Mariners’ bid because Central Coast Stadium does not have enough change rooms to cater for televised A-League double-headers.
Mariners chief executive Shaun Mielekamp told the Herald the club had secured funding, lined up a coach and talked to marquee players in the expectation they would play this season.
He said the club was shattered but determined to push ahead with plans to enter the league in the future.
The council had knocked back the club’s offer to pay for new change rooms.
“Our politicians at all levels, from all sides, need to link arms for progress here,” Mielekamp said.
