The accused, who was wanted on outstanding bail warrants, was arrested in the Nelson Bay CBD and taken back to Raymond Terrace police station.
There, he was interviewed by police and held in remand overnight.
On Tuesday, he was led into the dock at Raymond Terrace Local Court dressed in the same clothes as he was at the time of his arrest – boardshorts, a black and blue T-shirt, and sneakers.
He spoke briefly with a defence lawyer but otherwise sat quietly while magistrate Caleb Franklin made his orders.
With no application for bail, it was formally refused.
Mr Rispen is to appear in Campbelltown Local Court via audio video link on Wednesday July 5.
