In one of the most dominant performance in a grand final, a relentless Hawks outfit never gave the Two Blues a chance.

They are the first side to win a hat-trick of titles since a Steve Merrick-led Singleton claimed their third straight in 1997.

It was the perfect swansong for coach Scott Coleman, who will hand over the reins next season to build a new family home.

Whoever, takes control will have enormous shoes to fill.

Saturday’s triumph was Coleman’s sixth grand-final win, following success in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2015.

Not even a red card to Seva Rokobaro in the 32^nd minute for dropping an elbow on Ryan Jackson could stop the Hawks.

“It is probably the club’s greatest moment – three in a row,” a relieved Coleman said holding back tears. “There was a lot of pressure on us. Rugby-wise it’s the pinnacle for me.”

The Hawks were in control from the opening whistle. They won a tighthead scrum in the second minute.  A minute Paul Dan landed a penalty and they were off and running.

Sireli Bainivalu scored two tries, the first a 70 metre intercept, as the Hawks kept up the point-a-minute strike rate to open a 17-0 lead.

Then halfback Dan sold a dummy to touch down beside the sticks and Soni Halanukonuka toed through a spilt pass and got a perfect bounce as the lead ballooned to 31-0.

Rhys Dombkins finally put Wanderers on the board in the 38^th minute when he crashed over for a converted try.

Any chance the Two Blues had of a revival was quashed two minutes into the second half when Ratu Delanimate skipped through a tackle and ran in under the posts.

Luke Sherwood, Billy Coffey, Ben Ham and Doug McKillop tried to lift the Two Blues but they had few answers to the power and precision of the Hawks.

Hamilton outside centre Delanimate was awarded the John Hipwell medal for player of the match. His line-speed and reads in defence were crucial in cutting off supply to Wanderers speed men out wide.

“We knew they had one plan of attack and that was to go around us,” Coleman said. “We were confident that our set piece would be dominant. We released our breakaways and everyone slid out one. Ratu had a license to shoot up and kill the ball.”

In truth, the Hipwell Medal could have gone to any of a half dozen Hawks. Steve Sione was a beast at the break down and rumbled forward. Belgian lock Mathieu Verschelden and second-row partner Joe Akkersdyke did a power of work. Dan pushed and probed. Inside centre Paddy Kilmurray was immense. They were simply far too good.

Wanderers coach Viv Paasi could do nothing but praise Hamilton.

“They were outstanding especially in and around the key areas that you need to win a grand final,” Paasi said. “Their defence was very good, their set piece  was good. That first half, they scored a couple of tries off our mistakes, but you can’t give a team  like Hamilton that sort of lead and expect to come back. “

Paasi, who has now guided Wanderers to three straight grand final defeats to Hamilton, is also taking time out next season.

“I would give anything to give these guys a premiership,” he said. It has been an amazing ride. We have had a big year. We turned over a lot of personnel and still managed to make a grand final. We had three teams in the grand final and won the club championship.”
