Poynting finished 18th in the third Aussie Racing Cars race of the Newcastle 500 Supercars weekend then convinced some of her support team and close friend and racing rival Madison Dunston to join her.
The 19-year-old sat in front of a fan in the pits after her 11-lap race on another warm day in Newcastle.
Aussie Racing Cars drivers do not have cool suits like the pilots in the Supercars series, and Poynting said her cockpit was sweltering during the race.
“The heat is just unbearable at times,” she said.
Poynting was full of praise for the circuit after her first two races were interrupted by other drivers’ crashes.
“It is just incredible. It is so cool for a street circuit. I have nothing else to compare it to.
“I don’t think I’m biased – everyone is saying it – it’s the best street circuit I’ve been on.
“Aussie Racing Cars get a lot of interest because we’re so different, but this weekend’s just a whole other level.
“It’s amazing the crowds we’ve had. Everyone’s saying it’s the most they've ever seen.
“On Friday, you don’t even see that many people at Bathurst on the Friday.”
