Having said that, care should still be taken as there is still some residual swell about.
Offshore fishos should keep this in mind also as this is a perfect time for chasing fish in shallow water. There should be plenty of snapper and bream hanging in close for a couple of days.
Best techniques for this type of fishing from a boat are to anchor in close around 10m of water in what is known as broken ground, which is patchy reef and sand areas, and put plenty of burley into the water.
Rigs should consist of very light line with just a single hook around a 2/0 with a pilchard tail or large prawn on as bait and flick 2 or 3 rods out with this rig and leave in rod holder with bait runner on or in free spool until a fish strikes.
Not surprisingly most fishing reports from last weekend were from the lake, with plenty of small squid still about and as a result plenty of jew and king fish were caught all in the 3-4kg range.’
Large schools of chopper tailor should also start showing up along the beaches up and down the coast as we approach Easter.
