Last year, more than 7530 volunteers took part at 72 Clean Up Australia Day sites across Lake Macquarie.
Among the meeting places for Clean Up Australia Day sites in the Westlakes area are:
- Hue Hue Road, near the intersection with Binbrook Road, Wyee;
- the playground at Bernie Goodwin Oval, Morisset;
- behind the basketball courts at Bonnells Bay Community Centre;
- The Ridgeway, Bolton Point;
- Blackalls Park shopping centre, on Railway Parade;
- corner of Cessnock Road and Sherwood Road, Awaba;
- Fennell Bay Bridge;
- Toronto Lions Park, on Anzac Parade; and
- McDonald’s Toronto.
Council’s sustainability manager Alice Howe is again calling on volunteers to do their part and help clean up a site on Sunday.
“Dozens of community groups, residents, businesses and schools across the city have already registered for the event, with 85 clean-up sites located across the city,” Dr Howe said.
“There are a great variety of clean-up sites at parks and town centres, along our foreshores and roadways, in bushland and reserves, and under water,” Dr Howe said.
“Council is always impressed by the level of commitment shown by local volunteers each year and we believe it is a reflection of the pride that Lake Macquarie residents have in their local environment.”
For safety, participants are asked to take a hat, sunscreen, water and a pair of gloves when cleaning up on the day.
