DUNGOG will become the new home of the Hunter’s novelty tea cosies from next year, mayor Tracy Norman has announced.
Cr Norman on Tuesday revealed the town would host a festival in 2019, two years after the Morpeth tea pot and tea cosy festival folded.
Campbell’s Store owner Trevor Richards and his wife Shirley had run the event since 1987, when it began with 53 unusual vessels. The 10-day incarnation last year boasted more than 4000.
Cr Norman said the Dungog event had its origins in the Morpeth event, and would have the support of the Richards family that made it a commercial venture in the historic Maitland village for three decades.
“The Morpeth event, which ran for 10 days in August, attracted big crowds to the benefit of all businesses in the town,” Cr Norman said.
“Like Morpeth, Dungog has great drawcards such as our cultural and natural heritage and a blooming arts and crafts sector.”
