That was the message from organisers of the ‘Respect All’ Markets at Cooranbong Park on Sunday.
The inaugural markets featured 32 stallholders offering a range of fresh produce, artisans’ creations, hot food and drinks, and homewares.
“Already, we have another dozen stalls lined up for next month’s markets [on June 17],” the Southlake Business Chamber and Community Alliance president, Fiona Hall, said.
“We’re also looking to get buskers to play some live music for us.”
Ms Hall said the feedback from vendors and visitors was generally very positive.
“Considering it was the first time that we’ve staged the markets, we were very happy with how it went,” she said.
“The community really supported it, and the vendors were happy, too.”
Ms Hall said it was difficult to get an accurate crowd figure for the day, but she checked the car parking areas every hour, and counted between 70 and 90 vehicles on each occasion.
“One of the things that we kept hearing was how impressed people were with the quality of the produce,” she said.
The stall offering vegetables was very busy, and there was scope for more local fruit and vegetable growers to join the markets, she said.
“Even if there were a few small-scale local growers who wanted to join with other small producers to form a combined stall, we’d be happy to accommodate them,” Ms Hall said.
Among the items that organisers are hoping to add to future markets are native plants, more honey, artworks, cakes and breads.
Meat and seafood vendors would also be welcome additions, Mr Hall said.
The jumping castle was a hit with families, as was the play area at the park.
It all made for a relaxing day out for families.
“We really want to thank the public for coming out and supporting the markets. We look forward to making it something that will continue to grow,” Ms Hall said.
The markets will be staged on the third Sunday of the month.
