AS former Adelaide archbishop Philip Edward Wilson’s high-powered defence prepares an all grounds appeal against his conviction for failing to report child sexual abuse, the prosecution are readying an appeal of their own.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions confirmed they have lodged an inadequacy appeal against Wilson’s maximum 12-month jail term, which magistrate Robert Stone ruled last month should be served by way of a six-month home detention order.
The prosecution appeal was mentioned in Newcastle District Court on Thursday, when the all grounds appeal dates of October 4 and 5 were vacated. The matter will instead proceed on November 27 and 28, with the first day set down for the appellate judge to read the voluminous local court transcript.
