An additional plant giveaway will be held at Morisset Library from 4pm to 6pm, on Wednesday, September 26. The giveaway is for Lake Macquarie residents only and proof of address will be required.

Bunnings workshop could save lives
BUNNINGS Warehouse Morisset is teaming up with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) this Saturday for the annual Get Ready Weekend. The event aims to inform locals about bushfire season preparedness. There will be a free Bushfire Preparedness DIY workshop at 8am. Preparing for bushfires is easier than people think. It could be as simple as mowing your lawn, clearing debris and flammable materials on your property, cleaning your gutters and talking to your family about what to do if a bushfire approached.
Fennell Bay garage sales
THREE households in Fennell Bay will host simultaneous garage sales this Sunday, September 23, as part of Lake Macquarie City Council’s Super Street Sale program. The garage sales will be at 20 and 27 Harrington Street, and 8 Lake Macquarie Close. Items for sale include baby items, golf clubs and bags, new home and garden hardware and tools, kitchenware, clothing, DVDs, books, plants, furniture, vacuum cleaners and ironing boards. Sales from 8am to 4pm.
Variety concert at Rathmines
RATHMINES Public School Hall is the venue this Sunday afternoon for a ‘Brass, Wind and Song’ variety concert. The show will feature the combined talents of Toronto Brass, Westlakes Concert Band, and Stilling Street Singers. The three groups share Westlakes Music Centre as their rehearsal space. The building is the former Catalina sergeants mess. Tickets cost $10 for adults (includes afternoon tea), with children admitted free. The music starts at 2pm.
Scorpions in two grand finals
MACQUARIE Scorpions will take on Central in the Newcastle Rugby League reserve grade grand final at McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle, this Sunday at 1.45pm. The Scorpions will take on Souths in the open grade decider at 12.20pm. In the main game, Lakes United will meet Souths at 3.30pm. Lakes booked a berth in the big dance when they downed fifth-placed Kurri Kurri 38-16 in the final at Townson Oval on Sunday.
