Locally, we acknowledge leading citizens and inspirational role models in our community through the Lake Macquarie Australia Day Awards. Nominations for the awards are closing soon in four categories to individuals and groups who have made a significant difference in our community through their efforts.
The City’s most prestigious honour, the Citizen of the Year Award is given to the person who has made the most outstanding contribution for the benefit of the community or environment.
Similar to Citizen of the Year, the Young Citizen of the Year Award shines the spotlight on our youth and the contribution they make within our community. It is awarded to a person, aged 21 years or younger, who has made the most outstanding contribution for the benefit of the community or environment.
Whether it’s to improve our natural environment, help local fauna or to benefit the people in our City, the Volunteer of the Year Award is given to an individual who has shown commitment, perseverance and has made a positive impact within the City.
Nomination forms are at lakemac.com.au/ausawards, and close October 29. I will announce the award winners on January 21, 2019.
