The Lake Macquarie community is invited to join the council in Speers Point Park on November 18 to say no to domestic violence.
Mayor Kay Fraser said the community plays a vital role in standing up, speaking out, and ending all forms of violence against women and children.
“We need to set a standard for respectful behaviour and gender equality in our community, at home and in the workplace, so we can eliminate family violence,” she said.
“Our family fun day is about coming together as one community to speak out and say no to domestic and family violence. It is not welcome in our community and we want everyone to know that.”
The family fun day will feature a range of activities including rides, family races, face painting, a baby animal petting zoo, kids’ play zone, live entertainment and a sausage sizzle.
All money raised will be donated to Survivors R Us, a not-for-profit charity that supports the fight against domestic violence, homelessness and unemployment.
This event will be hosted by NSW Police, with support from Lake Macquarie City Council, Toronto Workers Club, the Liquor Accord, Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Services and the Rotary Club of Warners Bay.
The event will be held from 10am to 3pm.
Entry is free.
Gold coin donations will be requested for rides and activities with all money raised going to Survivors R Us.
