Last Friday Sydney alternative-pop band Lime Cordiale performed at Newcastle High School, before their Cambridge Hotel show, in tribute to former student Isaac Lourie.
The Hamilton 17-year-old was killed in January in a water-skiing accident at Raymond Terrace. Lourie was a guitarist and a fan of Sydney indie act Lime Cordiale, so Newcastle High reached out to Leimbach about performing for his classmates.
Lime Cordiale frontman Oli Leimbach told the Herald before the show that the duo didn’t think twice about performing after they received the request.
“For someone to already be a fan of our band is pretty emotional for us, especially when they’re outside of Sydney,” Leimbach said.
“Hearing that someone has passed away it felt like one of our crew, one of our family, had passed away. It hit pretty hard.
“To not even know [Isaac] and to know this school is remembering him with this music, that’s amazing.”
Isaac’s family also launched the Isaac Lourie Scholarship on the day, which comprises of a year of access to a guitar and tuition from Reynolds & Co.
