Dementia Australia is preparing to host its first ever ‘Memory Walk and Dog’ events as part of the big day.
It means that participants in the Memory Walk and Jog can also register their dogs, and take them along to the fundraiser at Speers Point Park on Sunday, March 31.
Each dog registered will receive a special Memory Walk and Jog dog bandana.
Dementia Australia’s Memory Walk and Jog raises funds to support the work of Dementia Australia, which provides support, education and resources for people living with dementia in Australia, their carers, families and friends.
This year, participants can choose to take part in a 2km or 7.5km walk, jog or run.
They are encouraged to help Dementia Australia reach the $110,000 fundraising target.
All funds raised will benefit Dementia Australia services in the Hunter region, \Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe said.
The Speers Point course is family (and dog!) friendly, and for all ages and fitness levels.
“With the launch of ‘Memory Walk and Dog’, we’re delighted to be offering a way for participants to officially involve their four-legged friends,” Ms McCabe said.
“It really is the paw-fect event for all the family.”
There will be prizes for the top fundraisers, as well as raffles, plenty of entertainment, food stalls, and a special guest appearance from the Memory Walk and Jog mascot, Al the Elephant.
Registrations are now open.
Register at memorywalk.com.au.
The first 500 people to register for the Speers Point event will receive a free t-shirt, and the first 1,000 people to register across all events will get a free pedometer.
