Closer to home, Upper Hunter has remained in the balance tonight, as Michael Johnsen fights to keep the seat for the Nationals, while candidates in the other eight seats in the region discovered their fate in the polls.
Kate Washington has been returned as Member for Port Stephens after a very early predictive call by Labor's Jodi McKay less than two hours after polls closed.
Independent candidate Greg Piper has increased his margin and retained the seat of Lake Macquarie. And in Newcastle, Labor's Tim Crackenthop near doubled his margin in a large swing in his favour to retain his seat.
