Swansea MP Yasmin Catley and Charlestown MP Jodie Harrison issued a joint statement on Monday calling on Keolis Downer and the NSW Transport Minister to come clean about incoming changes.
The statement said the Rail Tram and Bus Union had raised concerns about reduced weekend bus services in east Lake Macquarie.
Possible changes include reducing Route 41, 43 and 48 buses to two-hour intervals during off peak times instead of the existing one-hour period, the MPs said.
The on-demand bus service, which operates in Charlestown and surrounding suburbs, could also be extended to Belmont.
The MPs have suggested the changes would create a public transport blackspot that would be filled by the expansion of the on-demand operating area.
They have both called for an explanation on the changes.
"Overwhelmingly the community tell us that they want the former route 350 bus back," Swansea MP Yasmin Catley said.
"Passengers from south east Lake Macquarie are wanting to travel to the key employment, services, transport and educational hubs of Broadmeadow, Hamilton and Newcastle West.
"Keolis Downer should be reviewing the timetable to provide better integration between services such as the route 14 and 29 services, not using it as an opportunity to reduce the level of service."
Ms Harrison said the community's concerns had not been incorporated into the mooted changes.
"For 18 months, my constituents have endured longer journey times, poorer connectivity and cuts to services - now they are facing reduced operating hours on weekends," she said.
"My office is again being inundated with complaints about the lack of transport services particularly to the suburbs of Redhead, Dudley and Whitebridge.
"I am now calling on the new Minister for Regional Transport to Fix Newcastle Buses."
Keolis Downer has been contacted for comment.
