Riley McNaughton provided the corner kick for Adam Hughes to make it 1-0 in the 11th minute before scoring himself in the 44th with a 40-metre free kick over the keeper, who had misjudged the flight of the ball. Rene Ferguson scored in the 75th.
Charlestown (25 points) leapfrogged Lambton Jaffas (24) with the catch-up match win but the Blues have played one game more. They sit two points out of the four.
In other news, the NPL grand finals will return to Magic Park this season.
Broadmeadow Magic's home ground had been the usual venue for the senior deciders before they were taken to McDonald Jones Stadium the past two seasons.
NNSW Football boss David Eland confirmed the games would return to Magic Park on Sunday, September 15.
"We trialled hosting the NPL grand final at McDonald Jones Stadium over recent years to provide players the opportunity of playing on that ground, however, spectator numbers weren't increasing and the expense of the event simply didn't outweigh the benefits," Eland said in a statement.
The Herald Women's Premier League deciders will again be at Weston Park, on September 1, while the Northern League One grand finals will remain at Edgeworth's Jack McLaughlan Oval, on September 8.
Meanwhile, Hamilton president George Sofianos confirmed on Wednesday that coach Peter McGuinness would remain at the helm next season.
There had been speculation McGuinness would not be retained for a third season. Olympic narrowly missed the finals last season and are eighth this year with 15 points from 15 games.
** NPL youth grand finals will be held at Hamilton's Darling Street Oval on September 7. NL1 youth will be at West Wallsend's Johnston Park on August 31.
