One of Newcastle's major signings for 2019, Ramien 22, has another year left on his contracted but the club won't stand in his way if he wants to play for a rival club in 2020 after a less than inspiring debut season with the Knights.
It's highly likely he has played his last game for the Knights.
Rumours have been rife for months the former Cronulla centre has not been happy in Newcastle after getting limited opportunities on the right edge earlier in the season and not figuring heavily in State of Origin discussions.
His form has been patchy at best with only rare glimpses of his undoubted potential mixed in with a number of poor performances highlighted by an absolute stinker against the Sydney Roosters a fortnight ago.
It's understood coach Nathan Brown has met with Ramien a number of times in recent weeks with talk his heart wasn't in it at the club and his management was already looking at options elsewhere. The club made the decision to allow Ramien to leave if he wished.
