The area features landscaping and new bench seating and tables near the playing field.
The new addition is part of the council's $1.4-million upgrade of the site which will see the park transformed into a recreation precinct including new playground equipment, outdoor fitness stations, and the barbecue area.
The upgrade has been delayed due to an asbestos find in the old playground.
In May, council was forced to halt its works to demolish the old playground when a contractor discovered asbestos below the surface, while digging new footings.
The council said on Friday it was working with contamination consultants to finalise a remediation plan for the playground area.
The council will provide further updates about the next phase of the project in the coming weeks.
