Magic confirmed the signing of Walker on Wednesday night after speculation he was joining his former Lake Macquarie coach, Richards, at the NNSW NPL club.
Walker had stuck with the Roosters, through second division and lean years in the NPL, after linking from Hamilton in 2013.
The striker joins a Magic team already containing James Virgili, Kale Bradbery, John Majurovski and Kristian Brymora in attack. Defender Tom Smart (Charlestown) is another recruit, while Magic have lost Mitch Oxborrow (Jaffas), Josh Piddington and Justin Broadley (retired).
Richards was unsure how the frontline would shape up but said "I think those guys are looking forward to it."
"Maj is not getting any younger and we don't expect him to be running around like a Virgili does, so his role will change," Richards said.
"And Kale will probably do better I think with someone like Sam Walker with him. It should be a good signing with all those boys."
And Richards expected Walker to thrive.
"I guess it takes a bit of pressure off him and he can just relax and play," he said. "He's not the one who has to score now. He should be able to enjoy his footy a bit more."
Meanwhile, outgoing coach Ruben Zadkovich is set to remain with the club as a game day analyst.
Magic announced in July that Zadkovich was leaving at season's end after three years as head coach "to pursue opportunities outside the Northern NSW NPL".
Richards said Zadkovich was likely to prepare video packages for the team to review at training.
As for more recruits, Richards said: "I don't think we need too many.
"We're lucky we have a really good squad anyway. Obviously if a really good guy comes along we'll have a look at him.
"We've lost only the one to another club, so we're in pretty good shape."
