Mayers granted the request on Friday but the men's competition and Newcastle International Hockey Centre will continue to operate this weekend under COVID-19 protocols approved by both Hockey NSW and Hunter New England Health.
An alternative date for the fixture has yet to be determined.
Sunday's grand final replay between Norths and Gosford is still set to go ahead as scheduled from 12pm.
Norths, who had the bye in round one, welcome back Quentin Percy, Ryan Holding and Mitch Brown to the club in 2020 but experienced striker Dane Pettitt will be missing this season.
Play gets underway at 12pm. Souths have the weekend off.
